Partition Protection

Many users store their confidential information on separate disk partitions. You can protect a partition so that no operating system or other software will be able to see it. Free space will be shown instead of it.
Partition protection is a convenient and reliable way to protect your information on separate partitions of a hard disk or on removable disks.

After you enable protection, the partition will automatically disappear from the system and nobody will be able to access it or any information stored there. No operating system or software will see that the protected partition is on the disk.

Below, as an example, you can see screenshots of the standard Windows XP partition management utility. The first screenshot shows a part of the disk structure before protection is enabled, while the second one shows the disk structure with protection enabled for one of partitions.

Not protected Protected (partition G)
After you disable protection, the partition will be decrypted and will become accessible for the system.
See the "Working with partition protection" section for details.

This technology has no limitations concerning the disk structure, types of file systems on partitions or operating systems. However, be careful because if you protect a partition where the operating system is stored, you will not be able to load it until the protection is disabled.

If you forget or lose your password and want to disable the protection, you can take a look at the password hint if it was specified when you were enabling boot protection. It is impossible to disable protection if you do not know the correct password.

Limitations for Windows 98/ME: to completely enable or disable protection, you will need to restart the computer.

Limitations:
• The maximum password length is 32 characters.
• The maximum hint length is 64 characters.
